Karnataka with its long coastline has some of the pristine spots for beach vacation. More picturesque than the beaches of neighbouring Goa or Kerala, relative less popularity has ensured it doesn’t have the crowds that flock to the two states.
We list five of the most popular ones.
Without doubt, Maravanthe is Karnataka’s most beautiful beach. Situated right next to the national highway 17 connecting Mumbai to Kochi. The Souparnika River flows on the other side of the road, creating a spectacular scenery.
While you are at Maravanthe, visit the Maraswamy temple located closeby. Varaha or the wild boar avatar of Lord Vishnu is venerated here.
Beach at Maravanthe is beautiful and has been identified as having high potential for tourism. Sunset, visit to islands and boat rides are some of the things that you can do in Maravanthe.
More renowned for its temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, Gokarna is also famous for its beaches. Framed by the majestic Western Ghats, the beaches are clean and less crowded. Om Beach is where most of the action takes place. Shaped in the form of Om, the Hindu symbol, activities like jet-skiing, banana boat, surfing, etc. adds to the beach experience. Half Moon Beach is ideal for swimming. Paradise Beach is ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Gokarna Beach is popular for water sports activities and sun bathing.
A popular beach town-cum-pilgrimage rolled into one. Known for the second tallest statue of Lord Shiva in the world, Murudeshwar beach has silvery sand bordered by the Western Ghats which form a scenic backdrop.
Beach is a great place to spend time with family and friends. It is clean and offers great view of the sunset. Off late Murudeshwar has become popular as a surfing hotspot. Surfing conditions remain ideal even during rains.
