Gulmarg snow festival was started in 2003 to promote and encourage winter sports and tourism here.
St Mary's Church: Built during British colonial rule, the St Mary’s Church is 110-year-old.
The Golf Course: Situated at an altitude of 2,650 m, it is the highest golf course in the world. Gulmarg Golf Club was started in 1911 by the British. Originally a 6-hole course was made in 1890-91 by Colonel Neville Chamberlain. The first Golf championship was played in 1922. The course remains covered under snow from December to April. One can hire golf sets and balls from pros that are registered with the Tourism Department.
Shiva Temple: Built by Dogra kings of Jammu and Kashmir, it is also known as Rani Temple or Maharani Temple. It is visible from every part of Gulmarg. This temple also known as Mohineshwar Shivalaya was built by Mohini Bai Sisodhia, the wife of Maharaja Hari Singh (the last king of Kashmir) in 1915.
Baba Reshi Shrine: The shrine or ziarat can be reached from either Gulmarg or Tangmarg. This Ziarat or mausoleum is of a muslim saint who died here in 1480. Before becoming an ascetic, he was a courtier of the Kashmir King Zain-ul-Abidin. Thousands of devotees visit the shrine every year and it is popular with Hindus and Muslims.
Khilanmarg: About six-km from the Gulmarg, it is the site for Gulmarg's winter ski runs and offers a fine view of the surrounding peaks. The Cable Car (Gondola) attracts a large number of tourists. The cable car can be used to visit Kongdori.
Alpather Lake: About 13 km from Gulmarg, at the foot of the Apharwat peaks. Alpather Lake makes an exciting day's excursion.
By Air: The nearest airport is in Srinagar, 57 km from Gulmarg. Regular flights connect Srinagar with other major cities in India.
By Rail: The railway station in Jammu is the nearest railhead.
By Road: Gulmarg has a good road connection with Srinagar and other major cities in Jammu and Kashmir. Bus stand is at Batmallo from where you can get buses to Srinagar.
The place is best explored on foot.
