Lonavla and Khandala: These two hill stations near Pune are the most favourite weekend getaways for the people of Mumbai and Pune. They are known for their lush green valleys and salubrious climate and for their adventure opportunities.

Kamshet: It is better known as the 'Para-Glider's paradise'. This sleepy village along the Mumbai-Pune Highway has been developed as a major paragliding destination.

Satara: This city near Pune is located 2320 ft above sea-level. It was the capital of the Maratha empire in the 17th century, hence it is also one of the historically important cities of Maharashtra.

Mahabaleshwar: A very beautiful hill station located in the Western Ghats. The area has one of the few evergreen forests of the world, and is a favourite weekend getaway.  It was the summer capital of Bombay province during the British Raj before Independence.

Wai: This is an old town in the Satara district. It is known for its Ghats on the banks of river Krishnā and its old temples, especially the ‘Dholyā Ganapati’. Wai is also a famous place for film shootings. Films like Gangajal, Omkara, Dabbang, Swadesh, Ishqiya and Singham and many others have been shot here.

Bhimshankar Wildlife Sanctuary: It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1974 and situated at an altitude of 2100 feet to 3800 feet, spread over three districts of Pune, Raigad and Thane.
