Located away from the other touristy places in Goa, Vagator is clean and quiet. Vagator is split into two as it is separated by a headland. When you stand on the headland facing the sea, the beach on your right is the Big Vagator Beach or North Vagator Beach and the beach on the left is Ozran Beach which is popularly known as Little Vagator Beach. The beach is a good place to spend some time in peace and helps recover from the glitz and crowds of Anjuna.
Swimming is an option but do it if you are confident and at your own risk as there are no lifeguards on the beach. The beach is also an excellent place to have a picnic without disturbance while you enjoy the sunset.
Tourist season that starts in December and ends in January makes the stalls and everything in Goa a bit pricey but there are many clubs that are still worth a visit for a nice time dancing to trance and psychedelic music played by digital jockeys who come from all around the world mainly for the very popular Sunburn Festival.
A part of Vagator Beach, known as Disco Valley, is the best place for trance parties in Goa since 1980s. There are a few famous open air clubs that attract lots of people to the beach that are located in Disco Valley.
A flea market is held near the beach every Wednesday. If you are looking for clothes, antiques, jewelry or mementos, then the flea market is the best place. Don’t forget to haggle as it is accepted.
Where to stay
Hostel and budget accommodation can be found near the beach. There are a couple of mid-range hotels near the beach. Vagator also boasts of a luxury hotel which is about one km away from the beach.
Where to eat
Seafood is speciality of the restaurants in Vagator. In Vagator, just as in other parts of Goa, you can find multi-cuisine restaurants. Vegetarian food is also served in these places but they are located towards Anjuna.
Best time to visit
Vagator can be visited any time of the year. However, November to February is the best time to visit Vagator Beach when the climate is cool and pleasant. Rest of the year, Vagator remains extremely hot and humid.
