Kadathanadan Kalari Centre: Known for Kalaripayattu martial arts. Best place to learn about the martial arts which gave birth to karate, etc.
Abraham’s Spice Garden: It is an organic garden of spices, situated on the road to Thekkady. The garden is an ideal place for learning about organic farming, ayurveda and cultivation of different kinds of spices.
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary: Declared as a tiger reserve in 1978, the sanctuary is located in Thekkady. In the 777 sq km wildlife sanctuary, one gets to see elephants, common langur, Nilgiri langur, bison, leopards, lion-tailed macaque. Apart from wild animals, there are 1965 species of flowering plants, 265 species of birds and many species of reptiles, fish and amphibians.
Vandiperiyar: Located about 13 km from Kumily, Vandiperiyer is one of the major trading centres of tea, coffee and pepper.
Vandanmedu: One of the largest trade centres for cardamom in the world, Vandanmedu is located about 25 km from Kumily. Visitors can enjoy a walk through the planatations, beside rock climbing, trekking and other activities.
Mangala Devi Temple: Located at a height of around 1,337 m above sea level, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Mangala. The temple was constructed in the Pandian style of architecture. Visitors require prior permission from the wildlife warden.
