Often referred to as ‘The Mini Kashmir‘, Tapola is situated 25 km ahead of Mahabaleshwar in the Satara district. While Mahabaleshwar remains as one of the popular hill stations in Maharashtra, Tapola is currently gaining recognition for its simplistic beauty.
Tapola is called Mini Kashmir because of the stunning view that the Sahyadri Hills offer of the Koyana Dam and the way the village is perfectly situated at the convergence of the rivers of Koyana and Solshi.
The Koyana Dam is one of the biggest in Maharashtra. The Koyana Hydroelectric Project is the largest completed hydroelectric power plant of India. It is a complex project consisting of total four dams of which the largest dam is the Koyana Dam.
The village is known for its calm surroundings combined with pleasant weather conditions. The predominant attraction of the place is the Shiv Sagar Lake which stretches 90 km long and serves as a water reservoir to the Koyana Dam. The lake offers visitors the opportunity to take pleasure in boating, water scooter rides, kayaking and swimming.
Tapola is popular with nature lovers, photographers and adventure lovers who can also enjoy trekking and relish the scenic landscape.
